Kennel cough – what is it actually?
Kennel cough is a highly contagious infection of the upper respiratory tract in dogs. Since it is a droplet infection, it is transmitted via the finest droplets of saliva or mucus. Kennel cough should not be underestimated. If you suspect it, you should contact your vet immediately.
How does kennel cough manifest itself?
Strong coughing with a barking sound that can go so far that it can lead to gagging or even vomiting
- Irritated mucous membranes
- Breathing difficulties, slight pressure against the windpipe can trigger a coughing fit
- Nasal or eye discharge
- Loss of appetite
- Fever
What can you do as an owner?
Avoid contact with other dogs at all costs to prevent infection. Give your dog plenty of rest, ideally only go for short walks and use a chest harness instead of a collar to irritate the neck area as little as possible. Keep the dog's environment warm and avoid drafts as much as possible.
For feeding-related support of the upper respiratory tract, we recommend our HustaVet BronchialVital, and you can strengthen the immune system with our cdVet PropolisHerbal.
For regular disinfection, we recommend cdDes.
