Die Zecke ist ein weltweit verbreiteter Parasit, der bei unseren Haustieren nicht gerade auf Freude trifft. Die Zecke ernährt sich von Blut zahlreicher Wirbeltiere. Der Blutverlust ist für den Wirt nicht problematisch. Die Zecke ist eher als Überträger von Krankheitserregern bekannt und gefürchtet. Durch ihren Körperbau hat sich die Zecke optimal an ihre Umwelt angepasst. Doch als Parasit braucht sie andere Lebewesen, von deren Blut sie lebt. Eine Zecke kann bis zu 15 Tage an ihrem Wirt hängen, dafür sucht sie sich eine geeignete Stelle, an der sie festen Halt hat.
Wie lange leben Zecken?
In freier Natur leben Zecken im Durchschnitt zwischen 3 und 5 Jahren. Männliche Zecken sterben nach der Begattung und weibliche normalerweise nach der Eiablage. Unter Testbedingungen im Labor konnten Zecken, die vorher Blut gesaugt hatten, bis zu zehn Jahre lang ohne weitere Nahrung auskommen.
Warum sind Zecken so gefährlich?
Erstmal ist es wichtig zu wissen, dass es kein Zeckengift ist, was den Wirt krank macht. Die Gefahr geht von den Krankheitserregern aus. Die Krankheitserreger sitzen bei der Zecke in den Speicheldrüsen oder im Darm. Diese werden dann über den Stechapparat in den Körper des Wirtes abgegeben. Die richtige Vorsorge ist daher sehr wichtig.
Die 3 häufigsten Zeckenarten
Gemeiner Holzbock
Er lebt in Wäldern, Wiesen und Graslandschaften. Diese Zecke ist in Europa und Asien weit verbreitet und kann verschiedene Krankheiten wie Lyme-Borreliose, FSME und Anaplasmose übertragen.
Braune Hundezecke
Sie bevorzugt warme, trockene Umgebungen und ist daher in Gebieten mit heißen Temperaturen, wie z.B. im Mittelmeerraum, besonders häufig anztreffen. Sie ist aber auch i- anderen Teilen der Welt verbreitet und kann verschiedene Krankheiten wie Ehrlichiose, Babesiose und Rocky-Mountain-Fleckfieber übertragen.
Die Auwaldzecke
Sie bevorzugt feuchte Umgebungen und ist daher häufig in Fluss- und Feuchtgebieten anzutreffen. Mit einer Größe von 3,6 - 6mm ist sie größer als andere einheimische Zecken. Die Auwaldzecke ist ein Überträger von verschiedenen Krankheitserregern, darunter auch die Babesiose.
Was ist der Lebensraum der Zecke?
Zecken besiedeln hauptsächlich Wälder und Graslandschaften, aber sie können auch in Feuchtgebieten und Gebüschen vorkommen. Sie bevorzugen oft Bereiche mit hohem Gras oder dichtem Unterholz, da sie sich dort vor der Sonne schützen und leichter auf ihre Wirte warten können. Manche Arten leben auch in Städten, insbesondere in Parks oder Gärten mit vielen Bäumen und Sträuchern. Zecken sind oft in Gebieten mit hohem Wildtierbestand anzutreffen, da sie sich von Blut ernähren und Wildtiere oft als Wirte nutzen.
Wie kann man sich und sein Tier schützen?
