Take a deep breath please

The airways have many functions for dogs: They are used not only for breathing but, are also needed for smelling and barking. Dogs also regulate their body temperature via the respiratory tract by panting. For natural support, cdVet offers a variety of products tailored to the special respiratory needs of dogs.

If a dog has pneumonia with sputum, the cough sounds wet and soft. However, the cough can also be dry, which then sounds rough and hard. Rattling breathing noises can also occur.

The most noticeable symptom of bronchitis is coughing. Sometimes mucus is also vomited up. If the cough is very strong, vomiting can also occur. Otherwise, the dog usually appears alert, eats normally and does not appear noticeably ill.

Some possible reasons for unusual breathing noises are blocked airways, respiratory diseases or heart problems. But obesity, laryngeal paralysis or brachycephalic syndrome can also cause your dog to have problems breathing.

Wheezing can be a symptom of an illness or blockage of the airways, but can also occur due to anatomical conditions, such as brachycephalic syndrome. The dog also wheezes when it reverse sneezes, but the attacks are only short-lived and usually harmless.

Fast or shallow breathing, coughing, gagging, wheezing, panting and bluish discoloration of the tongue or mucous membranes can indicate a respiratory problem. However, the symptoms can be related to various health problems, such as allergies, heart disease or ingestion of a foreign body, so the exact cause should be sought.
