It sounds really martial: Dragon‘s Blood - Sangre de Drago. But the fantastic-sounding name has nothing in common with myths, legends, or mythical creatures. Croton lechleri - the Latin name of this rainforest tree - grows in the tropical Amazon regions of South America and its appearance is more reminiscent of an umbrella tree than a dragon. But the amazing thing about it is inside: If the bark is scratched or scraped, the eponymous, wine-red, slightly foamy sap oozes out, as if the tree would bleed. This means you can harvest from the same trees over and over again in a resource-saving way - no trees are felled for the harvest.
