Are parasites contagious?

Most parasites are host-specific. This means that their main host is an animal species that they prefer. Nevertheless, fleas, for example, can also jump onto humans and suck blood. Other parasites such as Giardia can also be transmitted to humans. Fleas can jump from one infected dog to another, so all animals in the household should always be treated in the event of a flea infestation.
