Fit-BARF – BARF made easy
Again and again, dogs that are switched to BARF lose a lot of weight or need very large amounts of meat to keep their figure, or they cannot tolerate raw meat. This is often very expensive for the dog owner and quickly leads to despair if the dog loses weight, because you actually want to do something good for the dog.
But why do many dogs lose weight?
Change enzymes
Extruded food contains significantly more carbohydrates than a BARF diet, which contains more protein. If you have been feeding extruded food for a long time, the body will produce more amylase than protein-splitting enzymes such as pepsin. The change in enzymes takes a few days, but happens automatically.
Change microbiome
But the microbiome also has to change in order to digest the food. Extruded food is easy to digest because the carbohydrates it contains have already been broken down. Intestinal bacteria have to work less, develop one-sidedly and the number of “good” bacteria decreases. Here you can support the dog by giving Fit-BARF DarmAktiv plus. The fermented plant extract supports the intestines probiotically. At the same time, you can support the development of a healthy microbiome with Fit-Barf Prebiotic. The fiber that is indigestible for the dog serves as food for the intestinal bacteria and promotes their growth and development.
Acid-base balance
Extruded food is a dry food. The consistency of this food and the carbohydrates it contains inhibit the production of stomach acid. However, more stomach acid is needed to digest raw meat, which can lead to short-term hyperacidity. The Fit-BARF Start-Elixir (see page 24) regulates the acid-base balance with its natural humic acids and supports the regeneration of the intestinal mucous membranes. For dogs with allergies, we recommend intestinal cleansing before the change, as antibiotics and other medications can permanently disrupt the intestinal flora. Avoid bones and offal at the beginning of the change.
